How to use the crossword maker
Each puzzle is a classic crossword: black squares separate the answers, and the clues are numbered to match the grid. Fill in the letters that fit — overlapping letters (where across and down words cross) are the key hints that make crosswords solvable.
- Difficulty: Easy uses short words on a smaller grid. Medium mixes mid-length words. Hard uses longer words for a tougher, denser grid.
- Categories: Animals, Food & Drink, Sports, Countries, Jobs and Nature. Every puzzle is generated fresh, so you can make unlimited crosswords.
- Solving: Type letters straight into the grid and use “Check” to highlight wrong entries in red — or print a blank puzzle to solve on paper.
- Printing: Choose 1 or 2 puzzles per page — each with its own grid and clues — then click “Print / PDF” or “Print Answers”. In the print dialog choose “Save as PDF” to download a file.
The rules of crosswords
- The grid mixes white answer squares and black squares that separate the answers. Black squares are never filled in.
- Answers are listed in the Across and Down clue columns, each with a number.
- Each numbered square in the grid matches the clue with the same number. Across answers read left to right; Down answers read top to bottom.
- Every square in an answer slot must be filled with a letter, and the letters must spell the answer to the clue.
- Where an across answer and a down answer cross, they share a square and a letter — the letter must satisfy both answers. Crossings are the key to solving.
- Fill one letter per square; the puzzle is complete when every white square is filled and every clue is answered.
