How to use the sudoku maker
Every sudoku is a classic logic grid: fill each empty square so that every row, column and box contains the numbers 1 to 9 exactly once (1 to 6 on the junior grid, 1 to 4 on the mini grid). The numbers already in the grid are your starting clues — use elimination to work out what fits where.
- Grid sizes: 4 × 4 Mini for young kids, 6 × 6 Junior as a first step up, and the classic 9 × 9 for everyone else.
- Difficulty: Easy leaves more clues, Hard leaves fewer. Each puzzle is generated with exactly one solution — no guessing required, ever.
- Solving: Click any empty square and type a number. Use “Check” to highlight wrong entries in red, or “Show Answers” to see the whole grid.
- Printing: Pick 1, 2, 4, 6 or 8 puzzles per page — great for a whole class or a week of practice — then click “Print / PDF” for the blank puzzles or “Print Answers” for the completed grids. In the print dialog choose “Save as PDF” to download a file.
The rules of sudoku
- The grid is divided into boxes — nine 3×3 boxes on the classic 9×9 grid, four 2×2 boxes on the mini 4×4, and six 2×3 boxes on the junior 6×6.
- Some cells are already filled in. These are your clues — they are always correct and never change.
- Fill every empty cell so that each row, each column and each box contains every number exactly once: 1–9 on the 9×9, 1–6 on the 6×6, and 1–4 on the 4×4.
- No number may appear twice in any row, column or box.
- Every puzzle on this site has exactly one solution and can be solved by logic alone — no guessing is ever needed.
- A good starting move: pick a box or row that is nearly full, work out which numbers are missing, and use the rows and columns that cross it to eliminate options.
