Skyscrapers Puzzle Generator
Skyscrapers is the skyline logic puzzle: place building heights 1 to N in the grid so every row and column has each height exactly once, and the numbers around the edge say how many buildings are visible from that side — taller buildings hide the shorter ones behind them. Three difficulty levels from 4×4 to 6×6, solve on screen, and print or download as PDF with an answers option.
How to use the skyscrapers maker
Pick a difficulty and a fresh puzzle appears instantly — every puzzle is different, and each one has exactly one solution.
- Reading the grid: the numbers around the border are the clues. Each clue says how many buildings are visible when you look across that row or column from that side.
- Solving: place a height from 1 to N in every cell so that no row or column repeats a height and every edge clue matches the visible skyline. There is always exactly one way to fill the grid.
- Solve on screen: click any blank and type a height, or use the arrow keys to move between blanks. Check highlights anything wrong.
- Printing: "Print / PDF" prints the blank puzzle — up to 2 per sheet. "Print Answers" prints the completed grid.
The rules of skyscrapers
- Place a building of height 1 to N in every cell, where N is the grid size.
- Every row must contain each height 1 to N exactly once.
- Every column must contain each height 1 to N exactly once.
- Each clue around the edge gives the number of buildings visible from that side: the first building is always visible, and every taller building hides the shorter ones behind it.
- There is exactly one solution, reachable by logic.
Frequently asked questions
What is a skyscrapers puzzle?
Skyscrapers (also called towers) is a logic puzzle where you place building heights 1 through N into an N×N grid — here 4×4, 5×5 or 6×6. Every row and every column must contain each height exactly once, and the numbers around the edge say how many buildings are visible from that side: a taller building hides the shorter ones behind it.
How do the edge clues work?
Imagine standing at the edge and looking across the row or column. The clue number tells you how many buildings you can see: the first building is always visible, and each taller building hides all the shorter ones behind it. For example, heights 2, 4, 1, 3 show two buildings (2, then 4 — the 1 and 3 are hidden behind 4).
Is the skyscrapers puzzle generator free?

How do I print a skyscrapers puzzle or save it as a PDF?
