How to use the word search maker
Choose a theme, grid size and difficulty, and a fresh word search appears instantly — every puzzle is different, and no two searches on a page are ever the same. The word list is grouped by word length so younger solvers can start with the short words.
- Difficulty: Easy hides words across and down (forward only). Medium adds backward words. Hard adds diagonal words in every direction — the real challenge.
- Grid sizes: 8 × 8 for a quick warm-up or young kids, 10 × 10 as the everyday size, and 12 × 12 for a longer hunt.
- Themes: Animals, Food & Drink, Sports, Countries, Jobs and Nature — the same categories as our other puzzles.
- Solve on screen: Click the first letter of a word you've spotted, then click its last letter. If it's a word on the list, it's marked found and struck off the list.
- Every search is different: the generator re-rolls until no two puzzles in a batch share the same word placements.
- Printing: Click “Print / PDF” for the blank puzzle, or “Print Answers” for the completed grid with every word highlighted. In the print dialog choose “Save as PDF” to download a file.
The rules of word search
- Every word on the list is hidden somewhere in the grid, spelled with consecutive letters.
- Words may run across, down or diagonally — and, depending on the difficulty, backward as well as forward.
- Words never turn corners: each one follows a single straight line.
- Letters in the grid can be shared by more than one word — that's normal, not an error.
- Every word on the list appears exactly once; there are no duplicates to find.
- When you think you've found a word, mark it — circle it on paper, or click its first and last letter on screen.
