Frequently asked questions

What is a hidato puzzle?

Hidato is a number-path puzzle invented by Gyora Benedek. Fill the grid with the consecutive numbers 1 through N so that each number sits in a cell next to the previous number — including diagonally — and every cell is used exactly once. Some numbers are given as clues, and the start (1) and end (N) are always shown.

Can numbers touch diagonally in hidato?

Yes. Consecutive numbers must sit in cells that touch at a corner or along a side — all eight surrounding cells count as "next to". So the number 15 can sit above, below, left, right, or in any of the four diagonal corners around the number 14.

Is the hidato puzzle generator free?

Yes. Every puzzle generator on this site is completely free and unlimited. There is no account, no sign-up and no watermark, and you can generate as many puzzles as you like.

How do I print a hidato puzzle or save it as a PDF?

Click "Print / PDF" to print the blank puzzle, or "Print Answers" for the completed grid. In the print dialog choose "Save as PDF" to download a file. You can print up to 2 puzzles per sheet.
